Kids Korner at UCLA

Kids Korner is a community service organization dedicated to enriching learning and academic opportunities for children and teens from underserved communities in Los Angeles. We strive to bring a love for learning and academic curiosity to the students we serve through tutoring and mentorship. During our general meetings, members collaborate together to create personalized curriculum for every student through forms of worksheets, writing exercises, and interactive presentations. We then take these tutoring materials to our weekly sites on Sundays where we also promote social skills and creativity through arts and crafts, science experiments, recreational games, and real-world discussions. Throughout the week, members have the opportunity to tutor students one-on-one as well. At the end of every quarter, we attend entertaining and educational field trips to reward the students for their dedication and efforts. Working with the same cohort of students throughout the years continues to provide Kids Korner with a truly special and valuable experience where members can watch the growth of the children we tutor and mentor over the years. This allows Kids Korner to offer UCLA students with not only a deeper understanding of the impacts of education on youth but also the opportunity to form meaningful ties with the families in the communities that we serve.
