American Indian Student Association

AISA is an inclusive association, open to all UCLA students. American Indians at UCLA and across the nation make up less than 1% of the entire student body. We have established a strong relationship and community that supports all American Indian, Alaskan Native, and First Nation students in their efforts to receive an education here at UCLA. Our Native Bruin community is a place where students come together and work collectively in an effort to promote education and interest in their culture. We work as a community to dispel any misconceptions regarding the art, language, history, and lives of American Indians. Our diverse backgrounds strengthen our community, as each individual brings with them their own, expressive perspectives and experiences that benefit the American Indian community. Within our organization, we have developed student-initiated and student-run outreach and retention projects, American Indian Recruitment (AIR) and Retention of American Indians Now! (RAIN!), both housed in the Student Activities Center. These projects are geared toward the success of Native people achieving higher education. Annual AISA events include Native American Heritage Week, Youth Conference/Basketball Tournament , and UCLA PowWow. AISA at UCLA acknowledges the Gabrieleño peoples as the original caretakers of the Los Angeles Greater Basin and Southern Channel Islands.
